Prime Day is over, but the lead-out strategy has just begun. See how WBX capitalizes on Amazon’s largest customer influx of the year through custom AMC audiences and insights.
Prime Day 2026 wrapped on June 26, the earliest the event has ever run and the second consecutive year it stretched to four days. The headline numbers tell a story that’s becoming familiar: bigger totals overall but softer economics on a per order basis. For brands and advertisers awaiting the 14 day attribution window to close, the real opportunity is actually right now in the 30-90 days that follow. This post breaks down what the data is telling us, the lead-out strategies worth prioritizing, and the AMC queries that turn Prime Day data into a real next-quarter strategy.

1. What the Data Is Actually Saying About Prime Day 2026
Spend was up, but spend per order was down. Adobe reported U.S. online retail spend during the June 23–26 window grew roughly 9.3% year over year to $26.4 billion. But Numerator’s tracker tells a more nuanced story underneath that headline: average order size came in around $45.94–$48.36 across the event, down 16-17% from the comparable points in 2025, while the share of households placing two or more separate orders climbed (58-63%, versus 42-58% at the same points last year). Translation: more transactions, smaller baskets. Shoppers are stretching the event out and buying more frequently in smaller increments rather than making one big haul.
WBX’s takeaway for next year? The Lead Up brand awareness strategy is going to be even more impactful in future years as consumers become deal-fatigued and brands try to break through the clutter. With the event lasting 4 days, consumers don’t feel the pressure to convert right away, meaning there is more time to educate yourself on the options and compare brands. A strong lead-up strategy will do the heavy lifting for you, amplifying brand awareness, perception and education in a less-competitive timeframe, resulting in a faster conversion during the sales event.
2. Lead-Out Strategy: How to take advantage of the influx of new customers to Amazon & your category
Most brands treat the Prime Day Event as only lasting from June 23-26th, leaving revenue and customers on the table for a Lead Out strategy. The 30-90 days immediately following the event are when audience opportunity within your category is the highest from net-new customers coming to Amazon to browse or shop the deals and your current new-to-brand shoppers convert into repeat customers. Two things matter most here:
Customer Remarketing & AMC Custom Audiences
Every Prime Day generates a wave of new-to-brand (NTB) purchasers and a separate, larger wave of high-intent browsers who added to cart, viewed product detail pages, or engaged with Sponsored Brands and DSP creative without converting. Additionally, with Amazon Marketing Cloud, WBX can build custom audiences from your own Prime Day event data. With WBX, these audiences can be created, pushed and incorporated into Amazon DSP & Sponsored Ads campaigns within 24 hours. A few audiences to launch in this post-event period include:
- NTB purchasers (post-purchase remarketing): This audience just tried your brand for the first time, often at a discount. The lead-out window is the moment to reinforce that decision by suggesting complementary product recommendations, loyalty program enrollment, upsell to a larger ASIN pack or subscribe-and-save nudges timed to typical reorder cycles for the category. WBX can use AMC optimal retargeting recency to evaluate when the perfect time to remarket your customer base is.
- Engaged non-purchasers (cart abandoners, PDP viewers, brand store browsers, video completers): This is usually the largest pool and the most underutilized. These shoppers showed real interest during the highest intent week of the year and still didn’t convert, often because of a stockout, price sensitivity, competitor offer or just running out of time during a tight four day window. A focused DSP retargeting push, ideally with a softened offer rather than a repeat of the Prime Day discount, can recover a meaningful share of this group before intent decays.
- Search Term Abandonment: Remarket consumers who searched for terms relevant to the brand but did not purchase
- Lookalike audiences using high-value seed audience: Build and deploy a lookalike of customers similar to those who spend a lot with your brand or who purchased multiple products
3. AMC Queries to Inform Strategy
The right AMC queries will allow a brand to understand the why behind the Prime Day data, providing key insights into what to do differently at the next tent pole event. Below are a few insights that we utilize for WBX-managed campaigns.
Path-to-conversion / multi-touch attribution query. Maps the full sequence of ad exposures (Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, DSP display, DSP video, Streaming TV) leading to a Prime Day purchase. This is the query that finally answers whether DSP is driving incremental search activity or just running in parallel. This can help to justify DSP budgets for 2H and annual planning.
Frequency and reach overlap analysis. With order frequency up but order size down across the event, understanding how many unique exposures it took to drive a purchase and where frequency capping might have suppressed incremental reach.
Halo effect / cross-ASIN purchase query. Identifies purchases of adjacent or complementary ASINs by customers who were exposed to ads for a different (often hero) product in the catalog. This quantifies the portfolio-level lift that standard ASIN-level reporting misses entirely, and it’s a strong data point for justifying broader catalog investment in future events, creative inspiration for what products can be promoted together, and future cross-sell or discount ideas.
Post-event repeat purchase query. Run 14, 30, and 60 days out to track what share of Prime Day NTB customers convert again, and through which channel. This closes the loop on whether lead out remarketing spend is actually producing retained customers or just one time discount hunters, which is probably the most important number for proving Prime Day’s value extends past the event itself.
The strategies above aren’t just a Prime Day exercise. The same lead out thinking, from customer remarketing to AMC custom audiences to the queries that explain why something worked, applies just as well to every major event left on the 2H calendar. Back to School, Fall Football, Halloween, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and New Year, New You all generate their own wave of new to brand shoppers and engaged non-purchasers, and each one deserves the same kind of follow through once the event itself is over.
